Look at deforestation in a particular country and the activities that lead to deforestation. How do market failures affect these activities? 5. Investigate a water quality issue in your area. It is caused by a pollution externality or a lack of property rights to consumptive uses of the water? What is current policy toward this issue? 6. Investigate the benefits of water quality improvements in the U.S. or another country. (Hint: Look at recent issues of the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, Water Resources Research, search the Internet and Econlit)
