Reflection

In the article titled Teaching the Nature of Science to Elementary Students by Jesse Wilcox and Alaina Lake, the authors discuss the need to introduce scientific concepts to children at an early age in elementary school. This should not mean that the students are taught about abstract science concepts that could be hard to understand, instead, the teachers should use decontextualized strategies to explain important lessons that can show what scientists do. These concepts explain the nature of science which is for the elementary students to begin comprehending how science concepts are learned and what they mean. Thus, the teachers could recreate situations that allow the young students to act as scientists. Thereafter they should reflect on what they did and how their actions can explain various scientific concepts.
