Find a picture of yourself playing or engaging creativity as a child. Think back to that time, how old were you in the picture? Where was the picture taken and by whom? What was the activity you were engaged in in the picture? What were you learning while engaged in the activity? Was this one of your favorite activities as a child? If yes, what made this activity fun to you? If not, why did you not like the activity and how could the activity have been different to increase your enjoyment? How important is this memory to you? What other thoughts do you have about this picture? Now that you are learning to be a teacher, how does the meaning of this picture change for you?

Google images of “theorist quotes about play” or “theorist quotes about creativity.” Select a quote that resonates with you. Include either the quote typed or a picture and discuss with your classmates why this quote stuck out to you, how it reflects your thoughts on play and creativity in early childhood education, your philosophies on teaching practices, and the type of teacher you want to be.

Discussion #3:
You will discuss some observations you have made about play in the classrooms in which you are working as a paraprofessional or student teacher.
Reflect on how often children play, what kind of play they engage in, how the classroom teacher either encourages or discourages play, and other observations you notice about play and child development.
