Introduction

The incidence of insomnia among the elderly in the society is one of the leading reasons for induced medical problems from sleep deprivation that can lead to extreme consequences such as injury or death. While it is important to note the numerous research studies that have been conducted to determine causes and treatment techniques, there has been a clear lack of same vigor in studying the relation that exists between gender and insomnia among the elderly. Perse, this research study proposes the evaluation of the hypothesis that women within the age bracket of 65 to 75 years are more likely to suffer from insomnia than men. Some of the key concepts that will be analyzed in the study include the role of hormonal differences, the effect of menopause, treatment strategies available, and how these factors compare to men.
