Will Robots Help the American Worker? Jeffrey Young’s opinion on whether robots will help the American worker is that robots “would become a liberator of the human spirit rather than an enemy of the working man.” The Scholar disagree that the technological invention is likely to wipe out employment. Young argues that robots will help man to eliminate the hard work associated with manual duties. The Scholar does not see the reason as to why human beings resist the use of robots. Typically, the invention of robots is not to over all human being’s duties but rather some of human being activities. Young sees many benefits for having robots around. For instance, there must be a person who will be operating the robots. This means that robots will not be eliminating human being duties, but rather, it will still be creating work for their operator. Moreover, Young’s quote is based on the increase in output when robots are in use. The level of output when robots are involved is understandably higher than when human beings are used. High level of output means high profitability, which is the primary reason on why businesses operate. The scholar while coining his quote also view the idea that robots would reduce the level of accidents that are accustomed to the use of human beings in firms. Workers at industries constantly worry about being injured while in their duties. However, the invention of robots means that there would be minimal or no casualties at all. In conclusion, Young does not see the reason why American workers are against the use of robots, instead, the scholar believes that it is the solution to their problems. On the other hand, Mark Kingwell brings about an opposing view of robots. Kingwell stated that “The gravest danger of offloading work is not a robot uprising but a human downgrading.” Kingwell does not approve the use of robots in place of human being. One of the underlining effects the scholar tries to put across is that it will rob workers of their live hood. A robot carries out tasks that would otherwise be a source of income to American workers. This means that to companies that incorporate robots in its departments, the live hood of people does not matter. Kingwell in continuation sheds light that the use of robots undermines the intellectual capacity of human beings. Robots have the capacity to calculate and carry out some task like human beings. However, the rational thinking of a human being cannot be substituted by artificial intelligence. The use of robots challenges the intellectualism of humans, a situation that may affect their logical thinking. Conclusion In my view, the use of robots to replace human presence is not advisable. The use of Artificial Intelligence will only benefit the employers in terms of output and hurt employees who would now useless. The use of robots should only be in dangerous duties, which might not be undertaken by human beings.
