What are some best practices and things that we need to consider as they relate to managing the FSMO roles? Pick one of the five FSMO roles and explain its purpose in detail. For the FSMO roles that you chose to explain, what are the steps required to move that role to another domain controller? ...[Show More]

The first best practice in managing FSMO is keeping Domain Naming Master and the Schema Master on the similar domain controller to abridge the management of the functions and ensure that the domain controller consists of a Global Catalog copy. The second practice is that in every domain, there is the placement of the RID master and PDC Emulator roles on the similar domain controller and ensure that the machine hardware can hold the capacity of the functions and other responsibilities it needs to do. The final practice is that in every domain, the Infrastructure Master role needs to be ensured that it does not hold by the domain controller, which also stores the Global Catalog. However, one should make sure that the Infrastructure Master is a straight replication of a domain controller partner that hosts the Global Catalog that stays in a similar place as the Infrastructure Master. Infrastructure Master is one role of FSMO. Its purpose is to make sure that the cross-domain references of the object are appropriately handled (Managing Active Directory FSMO Roles, 2017). For instance, if one adds a user from one domain to the safety group of another domain, the Infrastructure Master ensures that it is done appropriately. However, in case the Active Directory placement consists of one domain, therefore the function of the Infrastructure Master will not work at all. Also, in a multi-domain surrounding, it is hardly utilized. Still, when the challenging use of administration activities are done, the machine holding the role does not require to have most of the horsepower. To move the Infrastructure Master to another domain controller, one needs to open the Active Directory Users and Computers console. Then one is supposed to right-click on the domain and afterward in the Operations Masters. The tabs will indicate the roles of the FSMO. To transfer the role of Infrastructure Master to another domain controller, one clicks Change and confirms the action. References Managing Active Directory FSMO Roles. (2017, May 24).
