Lobbying is crucial for a democracy. However, like is the case in Australia, if lobbying is not properly regulated there is a high risk of having a few people influencing decisions at the expense of the taxpayers. The reason why lobbying should be further examined is that the current laws are loose and still give room for government officials to abuse office. There are still unmanned loopholes that need to be addressed. Australia currently has no measures in place to act as watchdogs over lobbying. Furthermore, the code of conduct in place is not functional and has not made any significant influence since its introduction in 2008.
