There are five categories of user-friendly interfaces which include: • Command Line Interface – involves computers responding to low-level commands typed by the user. Users are well informed and knowledgeable of the low-level commands which depict the existence of high-level computer skills. • Graphical User Interface – Users interact with a visual representation of commands through graphical icons. Different commands are selected by the user through a pointing device such as a mouse, touchpad or trackball. Users have sufficient knowledge of different computer commands but not high-level computer skills. • Menu Based – simple and easy to use interface containing a series of menus and sub-menus which the user accesses through pressing different buttons. Users lack the high level of computer skills but understand human language computer commands. • Form-Based – Makes use of an interface that contains text-boxes and drop-down menus to enable the user to input information to enter data into a system. Requires no knowledge of computer commands only human language. • Natural Language – the user interacts with the computer by taking to it in their natural language. The computer picks the user’s input and translates it into low-level computer commands to compute the user’s requests. Users have no prior knowledge of computer commands but understand how computers work.
