In my view, the most significant payer, concerning the number of consumers depending on its health programs is the government. The U.S government accounts for more than 50% of the total healthcare costs. In 2018 fiscal period, the federal government spent over $ 1 trillion in healthcare costs. The biggest beneficiaries of this amount are the federal-run programs Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). In 2018, Medicare received more than $ 500 billion from the federal government while Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) received more than $ 350 billion as federal funding for healthcare (TPC, 2019). The importance of government-funded healthcare programs is in the sense that it covers for individuals with low-incomes and those that qualify through eligibility such as age and disability. In most cases, the above population is the most vulnerable in regards to access to quality healthcare services. On the other hand, in my part, an employer-sponsored program is the least important since its contribution is marginal. In this respect, most employers collaborate with private insurance companies, in a bid to be viable and protective to human resources.
