Electronic medical records (EMRs) Refer to the records on a patient on a particular treatment since admission by a given physician. These records are confidential between a patient and the physician. It contains the biodata, the diagnoses, and the treatment. The Electronic Health Records (EHRs) Is a wider documentation of the patient's medical history. This is open to other healthcare providers and can be requested. This record moves with the patient even across borders. The major challenges from EMRs and EHRs are in the implementation. First is the cost, technology has overhead in setting it in place for the various institutions. It also increases the cost of health care. Training is also required for the staff to be able to handle the system and work efficiently with it. The other challenge is the security of patient information. The systems should warn if there is an attempted hack. The security issue is still to be won since systems are prone to attacks and this relies on technological advancements. It is possible the systems may crash and subsystems may fail. Backups should be put in place at all times.
